When You Panic!

I've experienced this in church before.  I get overwhelming feelings of worthlessness, which (to me) makes me angry. I was thinking, "Why am I feeling this way? What is going on?" I found myself being overly critical of the service and myself, but I knew there was no reason to.

When does Satan attack you? I can venture a guess that there is one day a week when he does. Sunday, right before or during the worship service. If there is anything that Satan wants to derail you from, it is your experience in worship.

So what can you do?

James 4:7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (NLT)

Ever seen the t-shirts that say. "Not today, Satan!" Well, they are right. Say it out loud if you have to.  But there is nothing wrong with acknowledging how you feel in the moment as long as you don't let them be the master of the moment.

Hebrews 13:15 Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. (NLT)

I know you don't "feel" like it. But express your faith and worship to God with what you have.  Even the emotions of the moment don't seem to line up.

Hebrews 10:25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. (NLT)

Surround yourself with people who will encourage you in the face of your attack. Hear and accept their words of affirmation. It is this kind of community that will pray for you and help you through tough times. Why? Because who you are is more important than your feelings at the moment.
