In Luke 7:44–46 (NLT), we witness a tender, almost scandalous scene—at the dinner table.
Jesus is a guest in a Pharisees home. At the dinner table we see a beautiful act of worship unfold.
Worship is a powerful force. Whether we realize it or not, we all worship something. Just look at college football stadiums packed with roaring fans, or crowds losing their minds at a concert. We pour our hearts, voices, and resources into what matters most to us.
But in this story, we see worship in its rawest, most vulnerable form.
Here is a woman known by everyone as a sinner. Her reputation is ruined; her shame is public. Yet she enters the room uninvited, pushes past judgmental stares, and pours herself out at Jesus’ feet.
-
She weeps over Jesus' dirty, travel-worn feet, washing them with her tears.
-
She wipes them clean with her own hair—humbling herself beyond what most of us could imagine.
-
She kisses those same dusty feet again and again.
-
Then she anoints Him with costly perfume, offering the very best she had.
This moment teaches us the profound power of forgiveness. When Jesus forgives, it doesn’t just clear a debt—it transforms a life. It awakens a love so deep, so grateful, that it overflows in extravagant devotion.
Jesus ends this intimate moment by telling her: “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” (Luke 7:50, NLT)
Love and compassion are at the very core of Jesus’ message. Forgiveness isn’t just a theological concept; it’s an invitation to live free—and to respond with wholehearted worship.
So let me ask you:
What would you be willing to do to show Jesus the depth of your love and gratitude for Him?
